Getting Course Content from BB5 to BB6

If you have courses that exist in Blackboard 5, you can archive each one to a zip file.
You will save the file(s) on your computer and then import them into BlackBoard 6
Note:  You should never try to open or make changes to the file.

 

Archiving a course from BB5

·        Login to Blackboard 5 and go to the course you plan to archive.

·        Click on the CONTROL PANEL in the left navigation bar

·        From the Course Options sections, choose Course Utilities

·        Click on Archive Course. 

There will be three numbered sections

1. Content Areas allows you to select the areas you want to archive for this course

2.  Package Format should be left with the selection set to Blackboard 5.5 package format

3.  Submit - Click the button when you have finished.
Note:  The process may take a few minutes - depending on the amount of content you are archiving. 

·        The next screen that appears will contain a Receipt

·        When you click the word here, a pop-up window will appear. 

·        Click on SAVE. (Do not try to open or run this file.) 

·        Save it on your computer in a convenient location.

Once the course has been created for you in Blackboard 6, you can use the file you archived from Blackboard 5 and import the course content into BlackBoard 6.

Importing a course into BlackBoard 6 from an archive file

 
·        Login to Blackboarad 6 and go to the course you will be using to import archived information.

·        Click on the CONTROL PANEL in the left navigation bar

·        From the Course Options sections, choose Import Package

There will be four numbered sections

1.  Select a Course will already be filled in with your Destination Course ID

2.  Select a Package.  Click the Browse button, locate the archive file on your computer, click on it to select it, and click Open.

3.  Select Course Materials to include in the import process

4.  Submit - Click the button when you have finished
